I will be attending the American Guild of Organists (AGO) Region V convention in Kalamazoo, MI from June 30 through July 3rd. Event details can be viewed on the Kalamazoo AGO website. There will be recitals on 12 pipe organs, workshops, and exhibits. This will be my first pipe organ convention and I am looking forward to it. On the last day we will journey to Battle Creek, MI for the day with the closing concert being held at the W. K. Kellogg Auditorium. I will provide a write up and photos upon my return!
Regional and National AGO Conventions
Anyone with an interest in pipe organs and organ music is welcome attend the AGO conventions. You need not be an organist!
There are 9 AGO regions which hold regional conventions on odd numbered years. Each convention is three or four days in length with the first in mid June and the last ending in early July. I like the idea of attending each region’s convention in the same year, however some of them overlap and all the travel could be expensive!
Heidi Bender writes about her experiences of learning to play the organ. She started on the adventure in 2009.
She also writes on her website Tons of Thanks, which helps people write thank-you notes. Heidi is also a cat lady who writes at The Joy of Cats.
I hope it is a great experience for you!
Hi Heidi,
I just read the information you enclosed about the organ event.
Sounds like something you will really enjoy and will be talking about for awhile.
It even sounds interesting to me, a person who does not play an organ.

You are going to love it! Have fun.
